What Is VoIP?

Voice communication through either dedicated or public internet, also known as VON (Voice On the Net) or VoIP (Voice over IP, or Voice over Internet Protocol), while the traditional telephony is carried over dedicated pairs of cables, using either analog or digital technologies.

The most common standards of VoIP are H323 or SIP.

SIP is a global standard, enables:

  • All sort of multimedia services (Voice, video and data).
  • It is upgradable.

The industry trend is replacing the old H323 for SIP.
